August was a very jubilant month for everyone at Goffs Brewery.

After attending The Cotswold Beer Festival in Gloucestershire at the beginning of the month, Goffs Brewery were delighted to learn that they had earned the title of ‘Best Bitter’ for their Cheltenham Gold Ale.

Organised by CAMRA – the Campaign for Real Ale – the Cotswold Beer Festival is a celebration of local ales, beers, ciders and perries.

Taking place annually, the festival offers visitors from far and wide the opportunity to sample the many different local  tipples on offer. CAMRA is a prestigious organisation who campaign to have good quality real ales, ciders and perries available to consumers in  pubs and clubs in every community.

Since being founded in 1971, the organisation is currently thriving with over 188,000 members  from around the world. Through their tireless campaigning, real ale is now produced by over 1,500 breweries across the UK – a tenfold increase since the campaign started in 1971.

Goffs selection on offer included the award winning Cheltenham Gold at 4.5% ABV and their dark, ruby beer, Black Knight at 5.3% ABV.

In order to find the best ales, beers, ciders and perries on offer at the festival, the selection is ‘blind tasted’ by a panel of CAMRA officials. There are 6 different categories that the beers are judged in. From these initial categories, the winner of each is put forward to be entered into the ‘Overal Champion’. Cheltenham Gold from Goffs won the ‘Best Bitter’ category – as well as runner up in the ‘Overall Champion’ category.  A fantastic result for a fine local, American hopped IPA.

Goffs Brewery previously won the ‘Gloucestershire Champions Best Bitter’ award back in 1999 which increased Goffs popularity and success. From small beginnings, making ales to traditional recipes in 1994, the success of Goffs Brewery has continued to grow, with their ales now available in pubs, nns and hotels throughout the Cotswolds, West Country and through wholesalers, nationwide. Contact Goffs for more information, call 01242 603383 or visit our online shop.
